Starting something new is always hard isn’t it?
I’ve been hosting the ‘Small Business Big Network’ podcast for over 5 years now, and I remember how much effort it took to get it started. Now that it’s been going for so long I don’t give it much thought – it just kind of runs itself. People know about it, people who want to be guests reach out to me, and it all feels fairly effortless….
But now I’m right back at the beginning. I’m launching a new podcast!
‘Come Here!’ is all about heritage attractions, and why you might want to visit them.
Every week I’ll be talking to a curator, collections manager, or even a passionate volunteer, about their site and what makes it special. I’ll also be asking the important questions that visitors want to know the answers to, such as opening times, accessibility, if there’s a café, and whether you can take your dog (which is always a very important consideration for me!).
As you will know if you’ve followed me for any length of time, my background is I have a PhD in Archaeological Science, and my favourite kinds of project are those with a heritage flavour, so I wanted to start a podcast where I can talk to people in this sector.
I’m really looking forward to all the fascinating conversations I’m going to be having, but first I’ve got to line up some guests. As it’s a brand new venture I can’t send them previous episodes to listen to, or show them any reviews from listeners – they just have to trust that I’ll make a good job of it.
Of course they can go and listen to my existing podcast (which got to number 5 in the Apple podcast charts for marketing by the way), but this one will have a different feel to it.
I’m starting off with a few people that I know, and attractions that are near to me. Spoiler alert, early episodes will include curators from Sherborne Castle, and Epworth Old Rectory (the home of the Wesleys). Once I’ve exhausted the connections I already have, I’ll be relying on word of mouth, social media, and good old email marketing to bring me new guests.
So if you can help me spread the word I’d be very grateful! If you work for a heritage organisation (this could be a museum, historic site, stately home, gallery, country park….) and you or one of your colleagues would like to be interviewed, then I’d love to hear from you. Equally if you’re interested in heritage and there’s somewhere you’d like me to feature, let me know and I’ll see what I can do!
