Offers and Asks!

I'm a professionally trained voiceover artist, broadcaster and copywriter. I have worked as a voiceover artist since 2013 on projects for films, radio & TV.

I often receive connection requests on social media where I am not sure why the person wants to be part of my network. I nearly always accept these requests and I usually ask if I can be of any help. Sometimes the person will reply and explain why they have reached out to me, sometimes they just respond with a ‘thanks for accepting my invitation’, and often they don’t reply at all!

So, to make connection requests more beneficial for everyone concerned here are some things I can offer, and some things I am looking for. Please tell me what you’re looking for too and hopefully we can make some meaningful connections for each other!

Here are some things I can offer you:

  • Obviously I can record a voiceover for you! There are many types of voiceover, and the genres I work in most are corporate and explainer videos, e-learning, phone systems, and radio commercials. I would love more work in the fields of TV commercials, museum audio tours and documentaries. Please send me an email if you have a voiceover query
  • If you’re local to me in North Lincolnshire and need to record your own voiceover, you can hire my studio. I’ve had local authors record their audiobooks here, and local actors record national TV commercial campaigns here rather than travel to London. It’s a broadcast quality studio which is set up for spoken word recordings (not music).
  • I’m the host of the Small Business Big Network podcast which has been running every week since January 2021. I’m always on the lookout for podcast guests – either small business owners who are using networking successfully, or people who run networks.   • Lots of business owners spend a lot of time and money making their brand look good, but far fewer think about how their brand sounds. If you want to improve audio in your business, I have a free top tips sheet you can download.
  • Your voicemail might be the first impression a potential new client gets of your business so you need to make sure it’s a good one! Here are my top tips for recording a really great voicemail greeting. If you would rather not do it yourself, I can do it for you of course, or if you want a cost-effective solution that sounds professional, I have some ‘done for you’ voicemail greetings and out of hours messages you can buy:
  • If you’re interested in working in the world of voiceover it can be difficult to know where to begin. I’ve written a handy eBook on how to get started in voiceover which can be downloaded from my website.
  • Networking is one of the main ways I promote my business, and I love connecting people who might be able to work together. I realised some time ago that creative people like voiceover artists tend to be introverts and shy away from networking. To help them out I created the Business Networking Knowhow online course to take people from zero to networking hero!
  • I regularly attend a number of different networking events including The Creative Collective, the CR38IVES, Find A Business Expert, The Business Hive (Grimsby and Scunthorpe areas), and others. If you’d like to be my guest let me know – most networks allow you at least one free visit.
  • If you’re looking for a speaker maybe I can help you. I’ve given talks on: my career as a voiceover artist; networking; finding funding; and communicating with/marketing to clients. I’ve spoken at conferences, on webinars, and to groups such as Women’s Institute’s and PROBUS.
  • If you’re organising an event such as a conference, an awards night, or even a theatre production and you need a Voice of God (the disembodied voice that tells you to take your seats or who has won the next award), I can help you with that, either pre-recorded or live.
  • For people in the voiceover or audio industry I run the Voice Over Social Hull meet up group. We meet a few times a year on a Saturday afternoon in a pub, for a few drinks and a chat. We welcome people who are considering starting out in the industry too, so if that’s you let me know and I’ll invite you to the next one.
  • Having networked extensively for my business over the years I have a lot of connections, so if you see someone I’m connected to on social media who you’d like to be introduced to let me know and I’ll make the connection for you.

  • If your target market is small business owners, why not consider sponsoring my podcast. My listeners are primarily small business owners in the UK, and advertising on podcasts is a great way to be really targeted with your marketing.

  • My podcast. ‘Small Business Big Network’ has been running every week since January 2021. It’s available on all the usual platforms, and via my website. I would love it if you could subscribe to the podcast on your favourite platform, rate it and leave a review, to help even more people find it.
  • Every month I send out interesting and useful bits and bobs about the voiceover industry to my mailing list. If you’d like to stay connected to me on a monthly basis I’m always looking to add people to my list! It’s totally worth it just for the video poem I record every Christmas!
