Taking my best friend to work

Marble the brindle lurcher asleep under a desk

I’ve been a member of the Business Hive Business Club for some years now. They run great networking events, and workshops for small businesses, but I’d never really made use of their co-working space in Grimsby. It’s not often that I go in that direction, it’s not on my way to anywhere, and the parking isn’t great either.

But! They now have a new premises in Brigg, which is much closer for me to get to, it’s on the way to Scunthorpe if I happen to be heading that way, and it’s close to a huge car park that has 2 hours free parking.

And even better – it’s dog friendly, so now I can take my best friend Marble to work with me.

If I’ve got a voice over recording to do, obviously that has to be done from my home studio, but if I’m writing emails, or working on my marketing, I can do that from anywhere.

I can see myself working from Brigg more often as the weather gets colder. The offices are lovely and warm and members have access to a fantastic coffee machine that also delivers free hot chocolate on demand…

The life of a freelancer can be quite a lonely one, so using a co-working space gives me an opportunity to interact with other humans. Taking my dog with me helps because people always want to give him a fuss, so he breaks the ice and then they talk to me!

There are lovely walks along the River Ancholme in Brigg, so now I can combine a dog walk with a visit to the office. Marble enjoys exploring somewhere new, and I get to work from a clutter-free desk (unlike my home office), so everyone wins.

Do you use co-working spaces, and if so do you take your best friend with you?
